Big City

If we lived in the big city

I'd imagine we'd share a cab

On the way to our respectable career homes

Which would probably feel more like real home

Because we would spend more time there

What with long hours and all

And I'm sure I'd have deadlines

Lots of them even

I'd have my own column like Carrie Bradshaw

And a closet full of shoes to match

If we lived in the big city

We would have one of those high rise apartments

And designer furniture

And a white carpet we'd be afraid we'd spill red wine on

Instead of falling asleep to chirping crickets

We'd let wailing sirens sing us into dream

If we lived in the big city

We wouldn't know hope

As in "I hope we can pay the rent"

And "I hope we can find some place nice to go tonight"

Everything would be taken care of

And under the glow of the neon signs

The water's reflection off of streetlights

And office buildings that run electricity 24/7

We'd be happy
